A ring of depth and contrast. A sculptural plaque ring in 14K yellow gold with a blackened silver top, set with approximately 1 carat of antique rose cut diamonds. Likely created from an earlier antique element, the ring is constructed in the manner of Georgian-era Dutch jewelry, with a closed-back silver setting and hand-cut rose diamonds of varied shapes. The oxidized silver beneath the stones deepens their soft, candlelit glow. The substantial 14K yellow gold band, engraved with a vine-like motif and soldered to the reverse, appears to be a later addition, suggesting the ring was converted from an antique ornament into a wearable piece in the early to mid-20th century. It carries the romantic character of 18th- and 19th-century jewelry with the comfort and durability of a substantial gold ring. The surface is richly dimensional. Rose cut diamonds of varied shapes and sizes create a quiet sense of movement, while the darkened silver beneath lends depth and mystery to the composition.
